Natural options to take care of our women’s health …
The seed cycle or seed cycling It is a technique that helps your body balance two of the hormones that influence your menstrual cycle (estrogen and progesterone) naturally. When an imbalance between both hormones occurs you can experience symptoms such as emotional and physical PMS, menstrual cramps and pain, lack of ovulation, acne, water retention, short luteal phases or irregular cycles … and that is just some things that can cause it.
During the seed cycle you include specific seeds – flaxseed, pumpkin, sesame and sunflower – to your diet in the first and second half of your menstrual cycle.
The idea is to benefit from the seed shell and its oil. The skin or shell of the seeds contains linganos. These are abundant plant chemicals in some plants and seeds that help rule out excess hormones that are produced in the body. While the natural oil contained in the seeds is high in essential fatty acids that are known to aid in the formation of hormones.
What you need to know:
It is relatively simple. The seed cycle is done according to your menstrual cycle if you have a regular cycle. If your cycle is not regular or you are currently not menstruating, you can do it by following the phases of the moon. For example, you consume the seeds that would correspond to the first half of your cycle with the new moon and those that correspond to the second half of your cycle with the full moon.
During the first phase of your cycle, that is, the follicular phase, you will use flaxseeds and pumpkin seeds. Flaxseeds are among the highest in linganos. These will help block and level if estrogen is produced in excess in the first half of your cycle.
The Pumpkin seeds for their part, they are high in Zinc, so they will help promote the production and release of progesterone for the second part of your cycle.
During the second phase of your cycle, in the luteal phase, you will consume Sesame seeds and sunflower seeds. Sesame or sesame seeds also contain lingans and thus help block excess estrogen.
The sunflower seeds meanwhile they are a good source of selenium, an important mineral to detoxify the liver, therefore, they will help balance hormones
It is important that the seeds are whole, raw and, if possible, organic. And you may wonder why not buy them already ground? Because you want to use all the freshness you can get from the seed. We don’t usually know how long it can be from the time the seed was ground and packaged until you buy it. My recommendation is that you grind enough for 3 to 5 servings, no more and that you store them in a glass container it seals well in the fridge like those masonjars, for example:
You can grind them into one high speed mixer or in a grain grinder of coffee
